During Chiefs practice this past week, Pro Bowl running back Jamaal Charles put a juke on Sanders Commings that was so effective, it literally broke Commings’ fibula and he had to have surgery. Commings was carted off the practice field after the incident and there has not yet been a timetable set for his return.
Charles is coming off of a pro bowl year in which he rushed for 1,287 yards and 12 touchdowns. He is yet again expected to be among the top rushers in the NFL under second-year coach Andy Reid. Commings, a second-year Safety out of the University of Gerogia, played in only two games for Kansas City in his rookie year, getting one tackle on the sesason. With fellow safety Eric Berry having gone down to an ankle injury, the Chiefs find themselves thin at defensive back. Although Berry’s injury is not considered serious, Commings was expected to take on a larger workload this year.
For the sake of the Chiefs’ opponents this year, let’s hope this is the last we hear of Charles bone-breaking juking abilities.
