Does Jadeveon Clowney already believe he’ll be the No. 1 pick?
The potential top pick in the 2014 NFL draft won’t be participating in any more individual workouts before the NFL draft, according to TheMMQB.com. Clowney will still visit with teams and interview with executives. It is believed that Clowney could be wary of what happened with former Clemson tackle Brandon Thomas. In a private workout a couple of weeks ago Thomas blew out his knee a during a workout.
I’ll say this much about Clowney, he doesn’t lack for self-confidence. He definitely believes it’s his name that should be called first on draft day.
“I can pretty much do it all,” he said earlier this month. “Anything on defense I can help. I can be a playmaker. I am a playmaker. I’ve got what it takes, I believe, to go out there and set the tone for the next guy coming up. And to help my team out winning games.
“Every team I’ve ever played with, we’ve never had a losing season. Never. Before I got there, I watched them lose. Not just here. Back in high school, middle school. I was like, ‘Man, that ain’t going to be my team when I play on that team.'”
The Houston Texans hold the top pick and it remains to be seen if they’ll pass on drafting a franchise quarterback and take Clowney instead. However, the pass rusher out of South Carolina’s stock has been on the rise since his phenomenal pro day workout. It was enough to have the Houston Chronicle’s John McClain change his thought process and project Clowney to go first overall in the draft. McClain had previously tabbed the Texans to take a quarterback, that was before Clowney’s pro day workout.
Clowney’s work ethic has been a question mark throughout the pre-draft process, however it’s not looking like it’ll effect his stock too much. NFL media analyst Charles Davis projects that the worst case scenario for Clowney would be falling to the Jacksonville Jaguars at the 3rd pick.
