Add another draft pick to the list of rookies signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers. After almost a month of negotiations, the Steelers finally signed former Tennessee quarterback and fourth round draft pick Josh Dobbs to a rookie contract Monday afternoon.

The rookie signal-caller received a $554,295 signing bonus, is under contract for the next four years and will earn a little over $2.95 million through the 2020 season.
Ben Roethlisberger gave the Steelers quite the scare this offseason when he told the coaching staff and front office that he was mulling retirement. Ultimately, Big Ben decided to come back for a 14th season, but the situation made Pittsburgh realize that finding their franchise quarterback’s successor should be a top priority going into the 2017 NFL Draft.
While considered a late round prospect by many scouts, Dobbs garnered a considerable amount of hype in the days leading up to the draft and the Steelers apparently like what they saw, selecting the Tennessee product with the intention to develop him into Roethlisberger’s eventual successor once the future Hall of Fame quarterback decides to call it a career.
Dobbs had a respectable four year college career and established himself as a versatile threat in his time at Tennessee. Dobbs racked up 7,138 passing yards and 53 touchdowns against 29 interceptions in 37 games under center. The former Volunteer also rushed for 2,160 yards and 32 touchdowns, and caught two passes for 62 yards and two receiving touchdowns.
For now, Dobbs will start his professional career as the third-string quarterback behind Roethlisberger and incumbent backup signal-caller Landry Jones, who the Steelers re-signed to a two year deal this offseason.
Now that Dobbs is officially signed, the Steelers have six of their eight draft picks under contract. First round pick T.J. Watt and third round pick Cameron Sutton are the only two rookies that remain unsigned.
