January 20th, 1991 the Buffalo Bills went on to destroy the Los Angeles Raiders 51-3 in the AFC Championship Game, and as life long Raiders fan I felt terrible and really didn’t like Jim Kelly. Kelly was amazing in the game passing for 300 yards on 17-23 passing and just completely destroying the Raiders.

August 4th, 2014 I sit in my living room and I am in totally admiration of Jim Kelly. I still have a little of that dislike for Jim Kelly the Buffalo Bills QB, but totally love, respect and admire Jim Kelly the man.

A man who lost his 8-year-old son Hunter to globoid-cell leukodystrophy in 2005, then to have jaw cancer surgery in 2013 and to have the cancer come back this March and go through radiation and chemotherapy, and still have the strength and smile to see Andre Reed inducted into the Hall of Fame. Sometimes I am not even sure how to say the feelings I have for him, but he has a strength that I can’t comprehend beyond anything.

He states he is not afraid to die, but Jim we need you to continue to live, because your strength is what makes men real men. His wife Jill and daughters Erin and Camryn are tremendously strong women, which is a testament to Jim and have shown me things to admire when it comes to dealing with the pain they deal with on occasions. I hope to find the strength in me in my daily life, which Jim shows every time I see him on TV.

Jim Kelly the football player might have broken my heart on that January day, but he has inspired me to be a stronger person and my heart is bigger and better because of Jim Kelly the man.
